HI,

My 22 year old son and I are going to go to the Lofoten islands in about a week (around August 1) and I would love advice on where to hike (with our limited time). We are from Saint Paul, MN, are both good hikers, and we will have a car. We have never been to the Lofoten islands before. Here is the current plan with my questions:

Where should we hike around Reine or A? We are staying two nights in Reine and have the 1 day in between for hiking. Are there 1 or 2 recommended hikes?

What hikes should we do with our one day between Reine and Henningsvaer? Could do several smaller hikes or one bigger one. After leaving Reine, we'll spend the next night in Henningsvaer.

If we have one 'extra' day, should we spend it around Svolvaer, or skip hiking around Svolvaer and save that time to hike between Skutnik and Bodo?

If we spend that 4th ('extra' day/ night ) near Svolvaer what are the recommended hike(s) to do there?

Or we can leave Henningsvaer, take the morning ferry from Svolvaer to Skutvik. Then we'd have the full day to stop and hike as we drive from Skutvik to Bodo. Which are the 'must-do' hikes along this route? Then we'd have one full day in / around Bodo before flying out the next day at 3 pm.

For the 'extra' day/night: The trade off is do we spend a night in Svolvaer and hike around there, or do we take the ferry to Skutvik and spend the 'extra' day somewhere between Skutvik and Bodo?

Thank you for your suggestions. We really appreciate them!

You will find several nice hikes around Reine, I would recommend:

- Brunakseltinden (you will need to take the taxi boat from Reine in the morning and start the walk from Vinstad).

http://www.rando-lofoten.net/index.php/en/hiking-to-brunakseltinden

- Helvete (Starts south for Reine, at the Djufjord bridge).

http://www.rando-lofoten.net/index.php/en/helvete-en

Reinebringen is not really recommended, the view is much nicer from Helvete or Brunakseltinden, and the walks are nicer.

What hikes should we do with our one day between Reine and Henningsvaer? Could do several smaller hikes or one bigger one. After leaving Reine, we'll spend the next night in Henningsvaer.

I would recommend:

- Stornappstinden (quite short, on Flakstad Island, near Napp)

http://www.rando-lofoten.net/index.php/en/stornappstinden-en

- Karstaven (quite short too, on Vestvagoya Island, near Borg, north from Leknes).

http://www.rando-lofoten.net/index.php/en/kartstaven-en

- Steinetinden (longer walk on Vestvagoya Island, above the small town of Stamsund, really nice)

http://www.rando-lofoten.net/index.php/en/hiking-to-steinetinden

- Himmeltinden (longer walk, only if it is not in the clouds, on Vestvagoya, near Utakleiv)

http://www.rando-lofoten.net/index.php/en/himmeltindan-en

- Trolldalstinden (long walk, on Vestvagoya, near a small place called Vikjorda), this one is quite out of the touristic tracks, very wild landscapes, and you will not meet many hikers. + take a coffe in the small restaurant/bar Rebecca in Vikjorda, held by 2 nice men from south of Norway. The atmosphere and decoration of the place is really nice and special!!

This one is not avaible yet on the website :-)

But remember that you will need around 3hrs to drive from Reine to Henningsvaer because of the small roads and the speed limit (often 60kms/hr). There are some big works going on just after Reine on the road E10, and waiting time can be up to 30min in the day (longer in the night).

If we have one 'extra' day, should we spend it around Svolvaer, or skip hiking around Svolvaer and save that time to hike between Skutnik and Bodo?

I would recommend, if good weather, the hike Matmora north from Svolvaer near Sandsletta village.

I do not know so well this part, between Stutvik and Bodo, but maybe someone else have something to recommend?

Hope you will enjoy the nice hikes on the Lofoten! And that the weather will be good :-)

I just learned that Saint Paul is a town in Minesota ;) Though it was maybe some small exotic Island...

Hello,

We will spend 5 days in Henningsvaer starting from June 8th and we were wondering what hiking routes there are in the area. We will also rent a car for the first 3 days, that will make it easier for us to go to further points.

Thank you

Irina
