Hello,

do you know how much snow is in June on the Lofoten islands? Can I hike up to 700 - 800 meters? Where will the snow starts to appear?

Thanks,

Laszlo.

Hi,

the weather has been very sunny and quite warm this week and most of the snow has melted now. Above 600m you will find some rest of snow. Especially on the north side of the mountains. But you can walk with no problem up to 800m in June 8-)

we wish you nice hikes and good weather conditions in the Lofoten Islands.

Do you think I have any chances to climb Hermannsdalstinden (1029 m) around 15 - 20th June? Without ice equipment - I don't plan to carry crampons with me.

Hi Laszlo,

At the moment I am writing this post there is still a large quantity of snow on the top part of Hermannsdalstinden (last 300m). It is difficult to tell you how much snow will be left around the 20th of June, this is of course depending of the weather conditions we will have here in the following weeks ;-) Normally at the mid June, there is very little snow left on the track that lead to the summit. However, if there is still much snow on the summit when you come to the Lofoten, you should consider carefully walking up there. The real problem, if there is snow there at this time of the year, is that it will be very heavy and melted and the ground which lay under is made of a huge scree on a 40° slope! So you should be careful with snow/stones avalanches.

Have a safe hiking in the Lofoten ;)
